There’s already an actor acting as Governor for California, so why not have an actress – comedian as president? She’d get the support from Hollywood, and corporations would likely follow, but what would that spell?! However, it seems that Roseanne Barr is determined to run for president.
When Roseanne Barr first came forward with her intentions of running for the presidency of the United States, a lot of people dismissed her plans. As the Associated Press reports, the actress-comedian said she will “barnstorm American living rooms” and the mainstream media won’t be able to ignore her.
Many might still take this lightly but Roseanne Barr has already registered with the Federal Election Commission in late January. As the Los Angeles Times report, Roseanne will be running for the Green Party nomination.
On Thursday, Roseanne tweeted: “I am running for Green Party nominee for POTUS. I am an official candidate. I am4 the Greening of America&the world. Green=peace/justice”.
Her pitch is based on the fact that “both the Democratic and Republican parties are bought and paid for by corporate America and cater to the needs of the highest bidder as opposed to the people they claim to represent”.
A Green Party presidential nomination poll, has Roseanne Barr ranked second with 29 percent of the vote after Jill Stein. Barr wrote on Twitter: “I run in support of The Green Party & probably of Jill Stein – hopefully I can be of service by speaking on media about a viable choice 4 voters”.
And to some extent, Roseanne Barr is right. She’s not the kind of person that the media radar for sensational would miss. As determined as she is, there still are voices that say she’s not for real. Villanova University political science professor Lara Brown believes that Roseanne Barr “is not a serious candidate, if for no other reason than it’s not clear who she appeals to right now”.
And taking into account Roseanne’s statements, so far, critics might be right. Take for instance her three-step platform: first make war illegal and legalize hemp, second include more women in the government and third – outlaw bull.
