Twitter launched a new tool that will allow, for the first time, users to search in the tweets they shared on the famous social network. The new tool, Tweet Index, will be available on both mobile platforms and on the web.
The official announcement on the release of this tool has been made by Twitter on Tuesday. The service is available in an All tab near the search bar. This is a complex searchable index of every public tweet made since 2006. The new feature has been in the works for quite some time, but the project had to be delayed due to the impressive number of tweets that the famous social network features. Twitter has revealed that the social network contains about half a trillion documents.
So, this is the first time when users are able to search the entire Twitter for results. Previously, users were able to search for tweets dating back a few weeks. It surely seems that Twitter is very happy to offer users the possibility to search in the 500 billion tweets.
Why is this new service so interesting? It will actually enable users to go back and enjoy the rich history that the famous social network has collected throughout the years. Twitter had been launched 8 years ago and during this time the famous company grew a lot. Millions of people use Twitter on daily basis and consider this to be the perfect tool for communication.
It will definitely be really interesting to go back in time and check out the first tweets. “This new infrastructure enables many use cases, providing comprehensive results for entire TV and sports seasons, conferences (#TEDGlobal), industry discussions (#MobilePayments), places, businesses and long-lived hashtag conversations across topics, such as #JapanEarthquake, #Election2012, #ScotlandDecides, #HongKong, #Ferguson and many more,” Twitter engineer Yi Zhuang wrote in a blog post.
Yi Zhuang revealed that the service will be fully available to users in the next few days. Twitter fans are already anxious to discover it and it seems that they will not have to wait for long to do so.
