Timothee Chalamet is Willy Wonka!

Candy is delicious! The fictional chocolatier Willy Wonka was first immortalized on the screen by Late Gene Wilder in 1971, however, his rendition of Roald Dahl’s Roald Dahl character was not to be the final one.

The year 2005 was the time that Johnny Depp donned the top of the hat as part of Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and soon, Timothee Chalamet will don his velvet coat for a prequel film that is simply called Wonka.

The announcement was made in May 2021. the new movie is scheduled to follow the zany candy maker at the beginning of his career before Wonka became the world-renowned businessman who was famous for hiding golden tickets inside chocolate bars. The Depp version featured a few scenes from the early days of Wonka’s life however, the new film is expected to focus solely on the events that led up to Charlie Bucket and company’s dramatic factory tour.

Chalamet revealed the first glimpse of the film’s new version in October 2021 . He posted an Instagram picture of himself dressed wearing a costume of Wonka. “The suspense is terrible,” the Beautiful Boy star captioned the image, using a quote from the Wilder’s version of the film. “I hope it will last.”

Although first reactions after the release of Wonka were mixed, the public’s mood seemed to have improved a bit following the Oscar nominee’s announcement. “OH MY GOD,” said Kiernan Shipka. “Absolutely,” added Zendaya the costar of Chalamet’s character in Dune. Fans of other celebrities were also thrilled and one fan wrote, “I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EXCITED FOR ANYTHING.”

When Chalamet’s Little Women actor appeared in Wonka’s iconic top hat as well as coat, it was difficult for the public to imagine a different actor in the role, however the director Paul King considered several other actors prior to Chalamet was chosen to play the role. When the development of the film began in the year 2018 The studio was looking at Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling, Ezra Miller and Tom Holland.

There aren’t many details about the film have been revealed However, the talents behind the camera are promising. Director King was previously the director of the popular Paddington along with Paddington 2, and producer David Heyman is best know for his work on the Harry Potter movies. The costume designer Lindy Hemming was awarded the Oscar at the time for her role on Topsy-Turvy and has now worked for The Dark Knight trilogy and Wonder Woman.

Cinematographer for the film, Seamus McGarvey, earned Oscar nominations due to his contributions in Atonement along with Anna Karenina as well as screenwriter Simon Farnaby previously worked with King on Paddington 2. Designer Nathan Crowley Nathan Crowley also has six Oscar nominations in his portfolio, for films like Tenet, Dunkirk and First Man.

What’s the Story?

As Dahl fans know that the novel adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has plenty of Wonka aspects that didn’t appear in films like the Wilder and Depp films. While Chalamet’s Wonka remains hidden from view however, it’s likely that a portion of the story’s elements will be derived from Dahl’s works. The producers have stated they believe Charlie Bucket will definitely not appear in the film this is the first time that the character has not been a part of Wonka in a major-screen adaptation.

Alongside Chalamet The film will also star Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Jim Carter and Natasha Rothwell in undisclosed roles.

When will it premiere?

The film will be released in theaters on March 17 2023.

Are It A Musical?

The two prior Wonka films featured tracks, as did the upcoming one will also. On May 20, 2021 Deadline stated that the movie would include “several” musical numbers, providing Chalamet his first chance to “show off his singing and dancing skills.”
