After saying ‘I Do’ to his longtime girlfriend Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake is back in the spotlight due to his video about homeless people. The singer turned actor apologized for the footage and described it as “silly” and “unsavory” because it mocks people living on the street, the Associated Press reports.
Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake chose one of the most romantic destinations for their wedding ceremony: Italy. Since many of their friends could not be present at the overseas party, they decided to surprise the newly wedded couple with an unusual gift. They created a 19-second video of homeless people congratulating Timberlake and Biel for their wedding.
The footage entitled “Greetings from your Hollywood friends who just couldn’t make it” was severely criticized by the media, as well as by Justin, who published an apology on Friday. The artist stated that he was not involved in the making of the video and was, in fact, so disturbed by its message that he refused to air it at his wedding. Justin said the joke was “distasteful” and he felt very sorry if homeless people were offended by it. Nevertheless, he concluded the message by assuring people that his friends were all well-intentioned.
Sid, Chuck and Robert are some of the “friends” who were filmed for Justin’s wedding gift. As the images show, they are all penniless and living on the street. One toothless man speaks to the camera telling Jessica and Justin that he hasn’t seen them in a long period of time, but hopes they have a wonderful wedding. Several other men make almost unintelligible greetings, whereas the man holding the camera asks them when was the last time they saw the couple.
Fans disagreed to Justin’s decision to criticize the gift. The majority of them stated that the images were not as offensive as the singer described them. Moreover, the footage could be interpreted as self-mockery given that the homeless people were playing the parts of Jessica and Justin’s real Hollywood friends.
