If you watched “The Office”, then you definitely know who Mindy Kaling is. Apart from playing Kelly Kapoor on NBC’s popular “The Office” Mindy Kaling has just premiered her own show. We’ve got to tell you, The Mindy (Kaling) Project is on and it’s great!
You might not know this about Mindy Kaling but the 33-year-old is more than just an actress. She is a younger, sassier version of Tina Fey. In fact, some of your most favorite “The Office” episodes might have well been written by Mindy Kaling. The 33-year-old just premiered her very own show called “The Mindy Project”.
On Tuesday night, Fox premiered “The Mindy Project”, created, written and starred by yours truly Mindy Kaling. “The Mindy Project” follows the story of skilled gynecologist with a romantic life that’s going fast down the hill. It’s a sassy, hilarious romantic comedy that it is obviously “Kelly Kapoor”’s work.
Mindy Kaling has set the show in an ob-gyn office and plays a gynecologist just like her mother used to do in real life. “I definitely wanted to do a character that has a great professional life, but not my exact job because no one could do comedy writer better than tina has in 30 Rock” said Mindy Kaling. So knowing from her mom’s time that being a gynecologist has a lot of juicy stories, the choice then became obvious.
Of her playing the lead character in “The Mindy Project”, former Miss “Kelly Kapoor” says 40 percent of her can be found in Mindy Lahiri. “At the same time, Mindy Kaling is not show-worthy. I’m not as dramatic as the characters that I like to play. But the character is very fun. She’s just so entitled and confident” the actress explained.
When looking at Mindy Kaling’s new sitcom it’s hard not to notice this is the first ever headlined by an Indian-American woman. “I am a super confident writer, and as a joke writer and as an actress, I’m like “I want to go head-to-head with every person” she said. “I am Indian woman and I’m a kind of double minority in this world, but I felt like my pilot was a great pilot, not just for all Indian-American women writing pilots that year” Mindy Kaling added of her new sitcom.
