Over the past few months, “Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood has been in and out of jail and court. Eventually she decided she couldn’t go through rehab on her own and said she’d rather do jail time than get back into drug rehab. The court took notice of her request. Thus, “Teen Mom” Amber Portwood goes to prison for 5 years.
According to a TMZ report, reality show star Amber Portwood has been sentenced to five years in prison. She got three years for prescription drugs possession without actual having a prescription and another two for violating her probation terms. It is the same sentence she was looking at back in February when the “Teen Mom” star decide to give rehab a chance.
A few days ago, Amber Portwood announced she’d rather go to jail than back in the drug rehab program. She requested the judge to put her in prison. On Tuesday, the judge reinstated the five year sentence.
The court decided that the reality show star could be released earlier is she get “good time” credits. In Indiana, the prisons’ policy reads that a prison could have a reduction of his or her sentence up to four years for “good time” credits. There’s also a 30-day reduction if Amber Portwood completes her drug rehab program in prison.
TMZ writes: “The judge said he would refer amber to the Indiana Department of Corrections therapeutic community program – an incarceration-based treatment program”. According to the Indiana Department of Corrections, four of the state’s prisons feature drug treatment programs that “focus on treating addiction as well as addressing criminal thinking”.
Prosecuting Attorney Rodney Cummings said that Portwood opted out her multiple opportunities and added that she failed a urine test and lied about it. “I just don’t think she knew opting out meant five years in prison” said the prosecuting attorney.
When Amber Portwood decided to go to jail, she told the judge she’s been taking pill since she was 13 and it’s a drug addiction she simply can’t deal with on her won. She said she realized how important it is for her to get clean and stated: “I think about my daughter all the time and I did not really do that before, I always thought about when I was going to get more pills”.
It seems to me prisons should be reserved for those who intentionally harm others against their will. Who did she harm?
Just herself.
feel bad for her kid. prison over rehab , drugs must be more important then her kid. grow up!
The show is retarded why give someone a t.v. Series while their in jail what are you suppose to learn from this shit. MTV needs to find something better to make a show out of instead of this crap.
