Not exactly what you’d call most appropriate gift for a 40th birthday, but for Nick Loeb that was the best time to propose the racy “Modern Family” star. Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb got engaged during a trip in Mexico.

E! News and Us Weekly report that Sofia Vergara and boyfriend Nick Loeb finally got engaged. It was during a week-long celebration in Mexico’s Rosewood Mayakoba resort. The reports say the two of them were in the company of fellow “Modern Family” stars, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Julie Bowen.

The sources say that Nick Loeb proposed to Sofia Vergara during a trip to the Chichen Itza ruins. An insider told E! News, Sofia Vergara was so happy with the news “she was bouncing around and showing everyone the ring”. One of her friends even posted a picture of the diamond engagement ring on Twitter.

Despite the engagement rumors, nor Sofia Vergara or Nick Loeb released an official statement. Only Sofia Vergara’s rep made a statement, only to dismiss the rumors. Her rep told PeopleEnEspanol.com  “As of today, Sofia is not engaged”.

However, Wonderwall published a picture of Sofia Vergara wearing a huge brilliant on her engagement finger. It was taken this Monday night, at her close friend’s birthday, Fernando Fiore.

From one point of view, the engagement rumors might be bogus. In the end, Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb patched things only two months ago. They first started seeing each other in February 2010, but earlier this year they called it quits. It didn’t take them too long before they were seen together again.

An insider told People.com “there are compromises to work out on both sides”. And apparently their split in May this year was just the peak of weeks of intense fighting. So, getting married might not happen too soon, but it sure looks like it’s in the works. After all, their relationship is really intense. During their first year together, Vergara stood by Loeb’s side as he was recovering from a serious car crash.

For Sofia Vergara it won’t be the first marriage. She was previously married to Joe Gonzalez, the father of her 20-year-old son.
