Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston reveals in an interview to MTV that he had an open heart surgery. Following a jet ski crash in May, in Florida, that almost killed him, the artist had to go through a delicate and complex surgery and had a harrowing recovery. He now opens up about the incident, Us Weekly reports.
On May 29, Sean Kingston was in Miami Beach, Florida having a good time jet skiing. But that day was going to be a day he will remember for the rest of his life. Kingston got severely injured and he had to go through an open heart surgery. “It was a life or death situation”, he told MTV in an interview given from his home. Still recovering from the accident, the artist retells the nightmare he has been through. “A lot of people don’t know it was a deeper situation. I had open heart surgery and I had two other surgeries.”
At first, he was rushed to the hospital for the external injuries, together with another woman involved in the accident (they had crashed their jet ski into a bridge.). The woman was treated for minor injuries and then released. Kingston was brought into the ER section in a critical state. He received the care needed, but when the doctors approved his release from the hospital, Kingston told his mother that he feels pain in the left side of his chest. So his mother told the doctors about it. “They did a lot of scans on me, [and] they said I couldn’t leave.” What the doctors have found was incredibly dangerous: his aorta was torn and blood was filling his chest. They had to operate on him multiple times and could not predict the outcome. But the 21-year-old made a miraculous recovery.
The musician is still recovering from the accident, but he is now able to see the life in different terms. “I’m 100 percent right now”, he tells MTV. “What the accident basically taught me is, in life, you have to count your blessings.”
