Mitt Romney has once again defeated his political opponents by winning the Michigan caucus over Santorum. Based on the primary results which were made public on Tuesday night, Romney is the winner of the last two primaries held in home-town Michigan and Arizona. He has now gained a remarkable momentum over the other Republican candidates in the presidential race.
Romney wished to address his supporters as soon as he found out the results of the Michigan primary. He told people in the crowd that the difference between him and Santorum was not very big, but in the end, he managed to win the battle. Later on, he posted a similar message on his Twitter account letting his followers know that he is very proud of his Michigan roots. He took the opportunity to thank people one more time for the support they have shown to him in Michigan. In the end, Romney announced that he will now prepare for the March contests.
Santorum, on the other hand, has already begun his preparation for the Ohio caucus, one of the Super Tuesday states that will hold elections on the first Tuesday in March. His representatives told him the results of the Michigan caucus and he didn’t seem to lose his confidence once he found out the he lost. Santorum even tried to lift his supporters’ spirits by telling them that nobody knew who they were a month before, but thanks to the recent campaigns they have made, the conservative Republican has gained popularity.
Arizona and Michigan didn’t seem to be very important for the other two Republican contestants, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul. In fact, they declared that they will pay more attention to the upcoming Super Tuesday states. These primaries and caucuses will be held next week when 10 states will vote for their favorite Republican candidate.
Romney’s victory in Michigan was not easy even though he grew up in this state. The battle between him and Santorum was fierce as the latter did everything in his power to win the contest. The results from 82 percent of Michigan’s precincts revealed that Romney got 41 percent, Santorum 38 percent, Paul won 12 percent and Gingrich 7 percent.
