Here we go again, talking about Rihanna and Chris Brown and how obviously wrong they are for each other. Rihanna on the other hand says Chris Brown was the love of her life.
It was without a doubt, a heartfelt interview but Rihanna’s confession about Chris Brown surely pushed Oprah’s buttons. The singer says that despite the brutal 2009 domestic battery, when Chris Brown assaulted her, they are still “close friends”. In fact, Rihanna told Oprah her ex Chris Brown was the love of her life and her best friend.
“I have forgiven him” Rihanna told Oprah referring to Chris Brown. “I was angry for a long time” the singer added. “I think he was the love of my life. He was my first love” she confessed. When she had to talk about the abuse she suffered from Chris Brown, Rihanna started crying and told Oprah she felt she had to be protective of the rapper because he needed help.
“It was a weird, confusing space to be in” Rihanna described the 2009 domestic abuse. “Because as angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help and who’s going to help him?” confessed the singer. “Nobody’s going to say he needs help. Everybody’s going to say he’s a monster without looking at the source, and I was more concerned about him” Rihanna told Oprah.
Just one night before the 2009 Grammy Awards, Rihanna’s fans were shocked to see her bruised and battered because of Chris Brown. The rapper received five years’ probation, one year of counseling for domestic violence and community labor.
Rihanna says she had a difficult time going through that. “I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched…switched in a night and I couldn’t control that” the singer told Oprah. “So I had to deal with that, and that’s not easy for me to understand or interpret. It’s not easy to interpret on camera. Not with the world watching” Rihanna complained.
Although Rihanna says it’s “awkward” running into Chris Brown at the moment, she is confident they will become friends again. “We’ve been working on our friendship, again. Now, we’re very, very close friends. We built a trust again and that’s it” she added. “We love each other and we probably always will. And that’s not anything that we’re gonna try to change” Rihanna said.
