It’s safe to say the Daytime Emmy Awards 2012 edition was a huge success for “General Hospital”. But Regis and Kelly were among the winners of a Daytime Emmy Award too, in a ceremony that started with a murder-suicide at the Beverly Hilton. Talk about drama!
The 39th annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony might not be as popular as the Oscars, but one thing is for sure: here everybody is a family. It was a festive atmosphere this weekend at the Beverly Hilton, even though the weekend started with a murder-suicide. There’s something about this place that makes people go crazy, in the end Whitney Houston died in one of its rooms too.
But as the participants at the Daytime Emmy Awards did, let’s put behind the gruesome news and enjoy the honors. The edition has been a raving success for “General Hospital”. The show got five trophies, one for best drama, and another four for lead actor, supporting actress, supporting actor and directing team.
So, Anthony Geary, Nancy Lee Grahn, Jonathan Jackson along with the rest of the cast and crew really had something to celebrate. Kristen Alderson said: “For us, this is more of a family reunion than an award show. There’s not so much riding on a win, so it’s easier to celebrate”.
But the show had something in the works for “Live with Regis and Kelly”. The show got a Daytime Emmy Award for best entertainment talk show and for best talk-show hosts. For Regis Philbin, the Daytime Emmy Awards were a great way to mark his departure last November.
The syndicated show “Jeopardy!” got its own Daytime Emmy for the best game show. Unfortunately, the same day the longtime host, Alex Trebek suffered a mild heart attack and had to be hospitalized.
During the event, Bill Geddie received a life achievement award for its work on Barbara Walter’s show “The View”. “There’s not a lot of glamour and glory in daytime. But when you think about it, we’re all here with the best of intentions: We just love making TV!” said Geddie.
