Recently it has become a real trend to have celebrities killed online. Yes, it sounds harsher than it actually is, but it seems a week can’t pass by, that the internet goes frenzy with rumors about celebrities that died. Reba McEntire is the last celebrity victim of death hoax.
Monday started for Reba McEntire’s fans as bad as it could get. News about the artist’s death have made it all across the internet thanks to social media sites, making it even in the top Google trends. But, before fans would take it to the streets, some decided to ask Reba about it on her Twitter page. She kept out of talking about the death hoax but at least she kept active on Twitter so fans could finally put the rumor out of their heads.
The news regarding Reba McEntire’s death came from a joke website. The alleged death report reads that “actress Reba McEntire died while filming a movie in Kitzbuhel, Austrya early this morning – January 30, 2012”. According to the website, “preliminary reports from Austrian Police officials indicate that the actress fell more than 100 feet to her death in a remote area of the Hahnenkamm mountains” and that “specific details are not yet available”.
The thing is that if more fans would have check out the origin of the rumor, rather than panicking on social media sites, the whole frenzy would have stopped a lot earlier. There’s a disclaimer on the website that wrote about Reba McEntire’s death report. All that they had to do is to scroll to the bottom of the web page and read the following:
“about this web site. FAKE… THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! This is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction”. Furthermore, “any reference to specific individuals has been 100% fabricated by web site visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank ‘non-specific’ template for the purpose of entertainment”.
In other news, Reba McEntire will appear on NBC’s genealogy series “Who Do You Think You Are?”. She posted the news on her Twitter account adding that an episode premiere will be released on March 2.
