R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet Will Hit Broadway

Here’s proof everybody dreams about making it on Broadway. R&B star R. Kelly says his hip-hop opera “Trapped in the Closet” will hit Broadway.

Some might call R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet” an amazing piece, whereas others would immediately pass on that. The new editions of “Trapped in the Closet” were premiered this Monday night at Sunshine Theater in New York City. During a Q&A session, R. Kelly hinted he will take “Trapped in the Closet” to Broadway. Would you hit that show?

He calls himself the “King of R&B” and a “scientist of music”, and “Trapped in the Closet” is for many R. Kelly’s most amazing piece of work. We haven’t seen too many rappers so enticed by musicals, but R. Kelly might be one to change that. At Monday’s premiere, R. Kelly confessed he “just got an offer from Broadway to do a Broadway version” so he is currently working on turning the hip hop opera into a musical.

Gawker.com writes that R. Kelly is even considering a part for himself in the musical “Trapped in the Closet”. “Some of the cities, I can’t guarantee all of them, and that’s what’s being negotiated right now because it takes a lot of time to do these chapters “ the R&B star  explained. Plus, since he is “the only in the studio writing these chapters” it’s going to be a while before we get to see a poster for “Trapped in the Closet” – the musical.

“Trapped in the Closet” is a project R. Kelly has been working for years now. “I am so nervous, but so excited to show you this” the 45-year-old R&B singer told his audience at the premiere of the latest installments of his saga. “Five long years, man. I had to save my money – a dollar a day” he confessed.

Billboard.com writes that the new chapters of “Trapped in the Closet” are “hilarious, bizarre and provocative, with new characters added into the mix”. The latest installments of R. Kelly’s sage will air this Friday night on IFC and according to Billboard.com, “the beloved characters…have returned intact”.

“Pimp Lucius is still stuttering his pimp talk, and how has to corral a blind prostitute. Randolph and Rosie are still arguing about sex while clad in pajamas. Twan…well, he’s still a muscly knucklehead” while “Tina is still torn about her future with Roxanne”.
