Singer PSY and MC Hammer made an unexpected appearance at the American Music Awards on Sunday. The two performers turned “Gangnam Style” into a song that was 2 Legit to Quit, Us weekly reports.
In just a couple of months, PSY has become the most appreciated singer on You Tube gathering more than 7 million Likes. The social media phenomenon pulled out an even bigger surprise for his fans at the American Music Awards when he teamed up with rap phenomenon MC Hammer.
As if “Gangnam Style” was not enough to rise the audience to its feet, the South Korean star invited rapper MC Hammer, the famous inventor of the Hammer style, to dance with him on stage. The song they selected for the performance was not “U Can’t Touch This”, but rather “2 Legit 2 Quit”. Since the dancing moves of “Gangnam Style” were very similar to the ones practiced by MC Hammer, it seemed… legit to have the rapper on the show. Thus, the feet moves were successfully combined with the hand gestures of “2 Legit 2 Quit”.
Hollywood celebrities have all admitted that they have a passion for PSY’s new song. The majority of them proved they can perform the pop star’s comic moves from the video on the red carpet.
Taking into consideration the fact that MC Hammer was as successful as PSY is today when his 1990 hit was released, the onstage mashup could turn viral within the following days. While the South Korean singer was all dressed in black and wore large Hammer-style pants, the rapper opted for an all-white outfit.
The moment was introduced by Will.i.am who was also impressed by the large number of Likes that PSY’s song gathered since last summer. The artists received a standing ovation at the end of the show, so PSY and MC Hammer could arrange similar surprises in the future for the amusement of the audience and, for me, as one of the biggest fans of PSY and MC Hammer.
Have you seen the show? Do you think PSY and MC Hammer make a good mashup?
