OKCupid has decided to block Firefox because of the anti-gay believes of the company’s new CEO. Moreover, the site went on to ask users to stop being partners with Firefox.
It seems that it is all linked to the anti-gay involvement of the new CEO of Mozzila. Brenden Eich has actually been in the middle of a scandal, as the CEO of the famous company has in fact been a supporter of the Proposition 8, which aimed to ban same-sex marriages.
So, what Brenden Eich did was to financially support an anti-gay marriage campaign. He donated the sum of $1000 to the campaign for California’s Proposition 8. The employees at Mozzila were not really happy with this situation, either. Many employees claimed to be very disappointed with the fact that Brenden Eich was named CEO.
Actually, numerous of these employees took Twitter to express their lack of approval for this situation. Some of these employees went even on to add that Brenden Eich should actually resign from the new position.
Brenden Eich claimed that he actually is very sorry for this whole situation. “I know some will be skeptical about this, and that words alone will not change anything. I can only ask for your support to have the time to “show, not tell”; and in the meantime express my sorrow at having caused pain,” he said in a recent blog post.
However, the truth is that both Mozilla and Brenden Eich have been in the middle of a complex protest. The online dating site OkCupid is just the last one to join this club. They went further to actually have a greeting message on their page when users access it.
“Mozilla’s new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples. We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OkCupid. Politics is normally not the business of a website, and we all know there’s a lot more wrong with the world than misguided CEOs,” the first part of this message says.
“Equality for gay relationships is personally important to many of us here at OkCupid,” the same message indicated. It is yet to see if other companies will follow the example of OkCupid.
