Singers Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin are the new faces of MAC’s Viva Glam campaign, taking the position of spokesperson from Lady Gaga, who held the position since the spring of last year, Us Magazine reports.
Rapper and songwriter Nicki Minaj joined sexy Latin singer Ricky Martin in the MAC Viva Glam campaign. The make-up company has chosen Minaj, 26, and Martin, 39, to be the representatives of the brand, according to a press release issued on Monday. And the music artists have already started their work. The duo is currently shooting the ads for the campaign in Miami. They are working with one of the best fashion photographers, David LaChapelle.
They will take the positions of spokespeople in February 2012, taking the lead from the most powerful celebrity of the moment, Lady Gaga. This is Nicki Minaj’s second collaboration with the make-up company. The first collaboration was in November 2010 when MAC released a cotton candy-pink lipstick to go with the diva’s first album, Pink Friday. The album marked Minaj’s studio debut and went platinum.
Nicki Minaj is a great ambassador for tolerance and freedom of thought. She has often been the subject of sexual preferences speculation. She once stated in Out magazine that she does not date or has sex with women, but does not date men, either. Later, she told Vibe that “I just embrace all people of all lifestyles and I don’t tell them they are bad people.” The singer added that she tries to make people feel good about themselves. “I say girls are beautiful and girls are sexy and they need to be told that, and if they don’t have anyone to tell them that and mean it, I’m gonna tell them that,” Minaj explained and added that she feels like “people always wanna define me and I don’t wanna be defined.”
Pop singer Ricky Martin has been a solo artist since the early ‘90s. His first hit was “Maria” in 1995, but he became famous in 1999 with the single “Livin’ La Vida Loca”. He started a non profit organization named Ricky Martin Foundation, focused on charity work.
Make-up Art Cosmetics (MAC) was founded in 1984 in Toronto, Canada. In 1998, the company was bought by Estee Lauder Companies, after the original founder died.
