Ariel Winter aka Alex Dunphy of the ABC hit comedy “Modern Family” might be going through some rough times. Her mom was accused of child abuse and has temporarily lost custody of Ariel Winter.
It all started with a petition filed by Ariel Winter’s older sister, Shanelle. The 34-year-old sister told a judge in Los Angeles that Ariel Winter’s mom has been abusing the “Modern Family” star and was appointed a temporary guardian until the child abuse allegations are cleared. However, Chrisoula Workman is denying the charges.
A Los Angeles judge took notice of the child abuse claims and has asked the mother, Chrisoula Workman to stay away from her 14-year-old daughter. She is also forbidden from contacting her daughter until November 20, when the judge has set a hearing. In the meanwhile Shanelle is Ariel Winter’s temporary guardian, but has no access to what her little sister is earning, whereas their mother does.
TMZ reports that Shanelle accused Chrisoula Workman of “ongoing physical abuse” Ariel Winter was constantly subjected to. The judge’s order was released in October in a filing that reads about child abuse including everything from slapping to hitting, name-calling and personal insults.
The court papers read about “ongoing physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor’s weight, attempts to ‘sexualize’ minor, deprivation of food etc. ) for an extended period of time”.
In a statement for People.com, Chrisoula Workman is denying abusing her 14-year-old actress daughter. “It’s all untrue, it’s all untrue” the mother told People.com. “I have my doctor’s letter that my daughter’s never been abused… I have stylists’ letters that she’s never been abused” the mother reacted against the judge’s decision.
At the moment, Ariel moved out of the house she used to live in with her mother and was even given a restraining order against her.
In a previous interview for People, Ariel Winter talked about her mother’s protective side but it didn’t look like a red flag. “If I go on dates, my mom is always with me. She’s always there making sure I’m all right” the “Modern Family” star told People. “Like if I go to see a movie with a boy, she’ll go to dinner next door”.
