Sheena Monnin, the 27-year-old that held the Miss Pennsylvania USA title resigned from her position. Miss Universe Organization claims that Miss Pennsylvania resigned over the transgender contestant policy, while Monnin says the pageant was rigged.
Over the weekend, Las Vegas was assaulted by breathtaking women. One of them became the new Miss USA. The lucky one was Miss Rhode Island, Olivia Culpo. However, not everybody was satisfied with the event and the results. Miss Pennsylvania USA, Sheena Monnin announced she is resigning from her position sparking controversy as she claims the pageant was rigged.
The 27-year-old former Miss Pennsylvania took her annoyance with Miss Universe Organization on Facebook. She posted on her personal page that the organization is “fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent and in many ways trashy”. Sheena Monnin claims that the top five contestants’ names were known before the pageant started.
Sheena Monnin writes on Facebook that soon after the top 16 finalists were known, another contestant told her she knew she was going to make it in the top five. “I said ‘who do you think they will be?’ She said that she didn’t ‘think’ she ‘knew’ because she saw the list that morning. She relayed whose names were on the list” adds Sheena Monnin.
On the other hand, Miss Universe Organization claims Sheena Monnin resigned from her position for a whole different reason. The organization said that the manager of the Miss Pennsylvania USA pageant, Randy Sanders, received an email from Sheena Monnin early Monday.
“Randy, I am officially and irrevocably resigning the title of Miss Pennsylvania USA 2012” reads the email. “I refuse to be part of a pageant system that has so far and so completely removed itself from its foundational principles to allow and support natural born males to compete in it” allegedly reads Monnin’s email.
Apparently, the former Miss Pennsylvania has a big issue with the organization’s new policy to accept transgender contestants. “This goes against every moral fiber of my being” reads the last line of the email Miss Universe Organization claims Randy Sanders received.
Miss Universe Organization says that Sheena Monnin “changed her story by publicly making false accusations claiming that the pageant was fixed”.
