In spite of all appearances, Matt Lauer and Ann Curry never got along during their collaboration on the “Today” show. In fact, sources have informed Us weekly reporters that Lauer wanted Ann Curry to leave the broadcast.

The tension between Ann Curry and her cohost, Matt Lauer has been visible in the past weeks, but everyone thought the anchor woman was stressed about NBC’s decision. An insider told the press that the two cohosts were actually avoiding each other because they couldn’t get along. In addition, Matt Lauer was “100 percent behind Ann leaving”, so she refused to speak with him throughout the whole week.

Sources further stated that the body language between the two was extremely tense even though the two were struggling to appear relaxed in front of the viewers. There was a funeral feeling in the air during her final day on “Today”.

Ann Curry, on the other hand, denies there have been any misunderstandings between her and her former colleague. She released a statement saying that she has always had a special chemistry with Lauer and they continued to remain friends even though she no longer works as a cohost for “Today”. She even reminded everyone that she previously worked with Matt Lauer for 14 years and they always made a good team.

Curry also announced that she will occupy a new position as an international correspondent for NBC News. The contract is valid for seven years and Steve Capus, the president of the broadcast, thinks Curry will do a better job in this position. According to him, the 55-year-old anchorwoman was made to present international stories; therefore, the new role will emphasize her strengths.

Savannah Guthrie was chosen to replace Ann. She previously worked as a White House Correspondent, so producers think she is better prepared for this position.
