It may seem that Mariah Carey is a strong confident woman, but maybe things are not actually as they seem. During a new interview with Page Six, Mariah actually revealed that she has been dealing with low self-esteem. It surely seems that being in the media attention has not been that simple for Mariah.
“I just feel like I am a regular human being and I deserve the same respect as anybody else. I have always had low self-esteem, and people do not recognize that,” Mariah said. “I can’t measure what type of respect I deserve — I really can’t,” the star went on to add.
Mariah also said that it hasn’t been simple for her growing up and achieving the success that she has today. “Growing up different, being biracial, having the whole thing where I did not know if I fit in . . . That is why music became such a big part of my life, because it helped me overcome those issues,” the star revealed. “Sometimes it is hard to let your guard down,” Mariah said.
The famous singer also revealed that she still remembers very well the days when she was an aspiring singer with no money and was struggling to make it in this industry. “I remember it not being easy getting a record deal. Making demos in the middle of the night, sleeping on the floor in the studio, being broke with no food. My go-to meal was [Newman’s Own] sauce. Me and my friend would split the pasta and sauce for, like, a week. Or it was, like, a bagel and iced tea . . . The guy would give it to me at the deli for free,” she said.
Without a doubt, Mariah has been a success story with numerous fans throughout the whole world. However, the famous singer is still dealing with some criticism. The star was recently criticised for looking very slim in some photos for Paper magazine, being claimed that she heavily edited the pictures to look slimmer. Of course, Mariah has not commented on these claims. The famous singer is currently dating her backup dancer, Bryan Tanaka.
