Unfortunately for popular actress Lisa Kudrow, she lost the lawsuit that her former manager filled against her and will now have to pay him no less than $1.6 million.
The court finally reached a verdict in the civil lawsuit against Lisa Kudrow. In fact, her former manager was the one to sue the former Friends star, claiming that the actress actually owed him residuals from her days on the popular television series.
Scott Howard won the case against the actress and now Kudrow will have to pay no less than $1.6 million for past and future economic losses. Howard was the actress’s manager between 1991 and 2007. The case was brought to trial about one year after the collaboration between the two ended.
So, the legal battle started in 2008, when Howard decided to sue the star because she had failed to pay him over $50,000 in fees from her earnings.
As the actresses refused to pay him, the man filled a lawsuit against her, which he now won.
Under the oral agreement that Howard made with Lisa Kudrow, he argued, the actress had to pay him 5 percent of the income she obtained during the time he was her manager.
Moreover, Scott Howard said that after he and Lisa stopped working together, the actress stopped paying him. He explained that she still owns him a percentage of what she earns on Friends reruns.
On the other hand, the actress said that he was her manager, not her agent, so he is not entitled to a commission or post-termination fee.
So, while the jury voted 10 to 2 against Lisa Kudrow, the actress will have to pay the established sum, as this is what is said she owed her manager from residuals earned for Friends.
Lisa Kudrow played the role of Phoebe in Friends. Even though the star started her part in the show with the lowest salary among all the other main actors, at the end of the television series, Kudrow made no less than $1 million per episode.
The verdict on this case was announced on Tuesday. During the trial, Lisa Kudrow said that she paid her manager more than $11 million before they ended their collaboration back in 2007. The two started to work together in 1991.
