Stewart’s Performance is Phenomenal

“I didn’t realize she’d completely immerse herself into this role, leaving zero trace of her lip-biting Twilight teen past,” DailyGossip’s film critic Mara Reinstein wrote after watching the film’s premiere on September 17 at the Telluride Film Festival. “By making use of her shyness in real life in her favor, Stewart plays Diana as an easy-going, self-reliant woman who reminisces about the exuberant teenager she was in the past. In her heart the People’s Princess will still exuberantly dance and perform with aplomb and eat every fast food item she wants. It’s an absolute pleasure as well as it’s a surprise to see the superstar pull it entire thing off.”

Her Approval

“I felt some spooky, spiritual feelings making this movie. Even if I was just fantasizing,” Stewart said to The Los Angeles Times in an interview that was published on September 7. “I felt like there were moments where I kind of got the sign-off. It’s scary to tell a story about someone who’s not alive anymore and who already felt so invaded. I never wanted to feel like we were invading anything, just that we were kind of adding to the multiplicity of a beautiful thing.”

The Wig

This was not padded or luxe in any way. We were balls to the wall, gunning through it. Which you can feel in the movie 10 or 15 minutes in — once it gets up and starts going, it doesn’t stop, it barrels. It felt that way to make it too.”

The Legacy

When speaking to Entertainment Weekly in October 2021, Stewart admitted that she could envision herself as a part of the princess who died. “I have experienced people kind of wanting to come in, but there is no comparison to this particular woman, in terms of that fervent desire to have her and know her,” Stewart explained. Even though she was a young woman at the time Diana’s death shocked the world, Stewart knew this would be the story of a lifetime. “I knew even before I read the script,” she said. “I was like, ‘You’re not going to say no to this, because who would you be in that case?’ I absolutely would have felt like such a coward. Especially given that I’m such an outsider. I’m not from the U.K., I don’t have any particular investment in the royal family. So I was kind of this really clean slate, and then could absorb her in a way that actually felt very instinctive, you know?”

Stewart was initially ‘nervous in her desire to play the late Princess

Before filming began the film, she Breaking Dawn star noted her anxiety about her role as the loved Princess of Wales in such a way it was reported that she “couldn’t open my mouth for two weeks.”

“I had TMJ [disorder] to the point where I was like, completely locked up,” Stewart stated for BBC News during an October 2021 interview. “I was like, ‘Huh, I guess I’m really nervous’ — I was really tripping out until we started.”
