On Thursday, Katie Holmes filed for divorce, ending a love story that simply mesmerized their fans. It’s safe to say their marriage was often referred to as the standard in the hectic Hollywood and their child, Suri became one of the most popular celebrity kids. While Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s decision to call it quits might seem a bit too sudden for the public, sources say the couple has been having issues for a while now.
Now that the news about the divorce has hit the media, everybody is looking for the reasons that caused the split. E! News writes that an insider said Tom Cruise’s “commitment to Scientology” was “at least in part” responsible for the split. The source said Katie Holmes “was never truly comfortable with the Scientology thing”.
Apparently, Tom Cruise’s dedication to Scientology “was something she accepted and put up with for many years because it was important to Tom, and for that reason, important to her”. But as of last year, the couple “started to see things differently, and she was beginning to pull away”, and not necessarily because Katie “was against Scientology”.
Another insider told E! News, marriage life got Katie Holmes to see life in different colors. The insider said Katie Holmes was overwhelmed with Cruise’s attention and “she gave up everything to be with him…she stopped seeing all her friends and being the normal girl that she was before”. Over the years, the source said it felt like Tom Cruise “controlled her in a way just because she had barely anyone else in her life but him, and almost no one her own age”.
For the 33-year-old actress it’s the first time ending a marriage. Tom Cruise, on the other hand, at 50 years old he’s ending his third marriage. He was previously married to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers. However, the divorce from Katie Holmes is going to cost the highly praised actor some popularity points.
