When it comes to Kanye West, whether you like him or hate him, it seems to make no difference: he’s just that popular. You need proof? Well, Kanye West tops this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards nominations, scoring 17 of those.
One thing is for sure: Kim Kardashian gotta be damn proud of her man! In the end, Kanye West has managed to score 17 nominations at BET Hip-Hop Awards 2012 and there are only 18 categories. Not to mention he’s been nominated way more times than 2 Chainz and Drake.
September 29th is going to be a great night for Kanye West. Comedian Kevin Hart who was the host of last week’s VMAs joked about installing a seat belt on Kanye West’s chair to avoid an incident. But it’s likely the BET Awards would be a much better place for that safety measure. The man has 17 nominations!
The BET Hip-Hop Awards nominations were delivered on Wednesday night’s episode of “106 & Park”. This year’s frontrunners are Kanye West (17 nominations), 2 Chainz (13 nominations) and Drake (11 nominations), but it’s likely Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend is going to leave home with a bunch of awards.
Kanye West’s video “Mercy” also featuring Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz was nominated for the Best Hip-Hop Video. And it has a lot of contenders. 2 Chainz’s “No Lie” is in the contest too, as well as Drake and Lil Wayne’s “HYFR”. ASAP Rocky competes with “Goldie” while Wale featuring Miguel are in with “Lotus Flower Bomb”.
While it’s likely Kanye West’s “Mercy” would take the award for Best Hip-Hop Video, when it comes to the MVP of the Year honors, it’s a tight fight. J. Cole, Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar are all nominated and we tend to think Jay-Z or Nas could snub that award.
And then there’s the People’s Champ Award, where we’re going to see exactly how popular Kanye West is. Contenders are 2 Chainz featuring Drake on “No Lie”, “Snapbacks and Tattoos” from Driicky Graham, Meek Mill and Rick Ross with “I’m A Boss” and then Kanye West with two collaborations on “Otis” and “Mercy”.
The BET Hip-Hop Awards 2012 will air October 9 and will be hosted by comedian Mike Epps.
