It wasn’t easy to see the Gosselin family crumble on TV. Jon and Kate called it quits back in 2009, as the fame put too much pressure on their family. Three years later after the breakup, Jon Gosselin tells Kate he’s sorry in an exclusive People interview.
It took Jon Gosselin three years and several therapy sessions with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach to finally open up about his failed marriage. After all this time he came forward in an interview with People and apologized to his former wife for his behavior after the breakup.
“I am sorry, because I did stuff I wouldn’t want done to me” said the 35-year-old former reality show star. After their split back in 2009, Jon started going out with a lot of women without thinking how that would impact the life of his eight kids with Kate or his former wife. The split and then Jon’s numerous dates hit the family from a financial point of view too.
“Jon & Kate Plus 8” was canceled, leaving Kate dealing with a huge income problem. Jon said he took TLC to court hoping the reality show would still air, even without him on it. Eventually, he was even opened to the idea of going back on television to help his family financially.
Jon told People he received “a lot of stuff”. “Crazy stuff. It wasn’t the right fit, then or now. I don’t want [my kids] thinking I take every show just to make a buck”.
During the past few years, Jon told People he became aware the divorce was his fault too. “I was passive-aggressive. Then I’d get mad, but I was the one who wasn’t communicating” he confessed.
Gosselin even had some therapy with Michael Jackson’s rabbi, Shmuley Boteach during the time he lived in New York. “He said, ‘There are two things you can do with your fame – sell out or take it and use it for good’. I didn’t grasp that at the time” said Jon Gosselin.
However, things seem to have changed. Now the 35-year-old former TV star moved back to Berks County and is now working as sales and promotions director at Gameface Int. He even has a new girlfriend, Liz Jannetta, a 27-year-old single mom.
