Jay-Z and Kanye West have been best friends for years. However, that seemed to have ended last year when Kanye slammed Jay-Z on stage, before his breakdown and hospitalization. Then, the fight continued this year when Jay-Z slammed Kanye in one of the singles on his latest album.
Of course, the two rappers revealed nothing else on this matter, but it was widely claimed that Jay-Z was upset with Kanye because of the claims he made on stage. Well, now this seem to have been confirmed by Jay-Z himself, who recently talked to Rap Radar during a new interview and addressed the rumors on this subject.
So, Jay-Z actually confirmed that Kanye’s rant from 2016, which occurred onstage during one of his concerts, lead to the fight. Jay-Z claimed that what bothered him wasn’t the fact that Kanye called him out, but that he brought his family into the dispute. “It’s not even about Kanye, it really isn’t,” Jay-Z said. “His name is there, just because it’s just the truth of what happened. But the whole point is ‘You got hurt because this person was talking about you on a stage.’ But what really hurt me was, you can’t bring my kids and my wife into it,” Jay-Z also explained.
Jay-Z revealed during his interview that he has always seen Kanye as his brother and that he and the rapper managed to overcome a series of conflicts they have had during the years, but involving his family was just too much for Jay-Z. “Kanye’s my little brother. He’s talked about me 100 times. He made a song called ‘Big Brother’. We’ve gotten past bigger issues, but you brought my family into it, now it’s a problem with me. That’s a real, real problem. And he knows it’s a problem,” the star explained.
Jay-Z also said that Kanye is very much aware of the fact that he crossed the line with the comments he made onstage. “I know he knows, because we’ve never let this much space go between one of our disagreements, and we’ve had many, because that’s who we are. That’s what I like about him. He’s an honest person, he’s open and he’ll say things and he’s wrong a lot of times and he’ll confront it,” the rapper concluded.
