A judge has ruled on the case involving famous former wrestler Hulk Hogan. Hogan will get no less than $115 million from this case. So, a judge has claimed that celebrity site Gawker will have to pay Hogan $55 million for economic harm and $60 million for emotional distress.
So, it seems that Hulk Hogan got even more than what he expected at the beginning. So, at the time when he filed the lawsuit against Gawker, Hogan actually asked for about $100 million.
Well, a jury formed by no less than six people actually considered that Hogan deserves more than that. Of course, the lawsuit and the award is linked to the much debated sex scandal involving Hogan and the wife of his former best friend, Bubba.
Hogan claimed that he suffered emotional distress when a video showing him and Bubba’s wife, Heather, having sex emerged online, being published by Gawker. The video showing the two having sex was allegedly provided to the celebrity site by Bubba, who was also initially named in the lawsuit. So, Hogan also sued Bubba and Heather, but they separately settled the case and Bubba is said to have paid a settlement sum to Hogan, as well.
“It’s turned my world upside down. The main thing is I was concerned about my children and my new wife,” Hogan previously said in court. Of course, Hulk Hogan was very happy with the result of this lawsuit. “We’re exceptionally happy with the verdict,” the former wrestler said. “We think it represents a statement as to the public’s disgust with the invasion of privacy disguised as journalism. The verdict says no more,” his statement went on to add.
Of course, if Hogan was happy with the results, we cannot say the same thing about Gawker. The site’s former editor in chief claimed that an appeal will be filed on the case. “We feel very positive about the appeal that we have already begun preparing, as we expect to win this case ultimately.” Of course, it is yet to see if this appeal will change anything in this verdict.
