“Game of Thrones” viewers have been expecting a great war to take place since the beginning of season 1. The much –anticipated Battle of Blackwater finally took place on Sunday, during the ninth episode of season 2. According to Entertainment News, it was worth the wait as the water and land fight was accurately portrayed.
Stannis Baratheon and Joffrey Baratheon’s armies clashed on Sunday night during what was described as the best episode of “Games of Thrones”. Despite the fact that the battle was anticipated for a long time, viewers were not disappointed by the fight; on the contrary, the water and land confrontations lived up to fans’ expectations.
The performance of the actors was equally appreciated because they managed to perfectly render their emotions during the preparation of the war. Each character prepared for the battle his own way; Davos Seaworth explains to his son, Matthos how the war is going to affect their future, whereas Cersei is willing to do whatever it takes to escape Stannis. She even procures poison from Pycelle so she and her youngest son could commit suicide in case Stannis wins the battle. Just as everyone was preparing to surrender to Stannis, there is a turn of events and Tywin Lannister announces his daughter, Cersei, that they have won the battle.
There are numerous questions that remain unanswered after this episode as both Tywin and Tyrion seem fit to become the next heroes of the show. One thing is for sure: it will be very difficult for the following episode to overcome the success of the Battle of Blackwater.
In a recent interview with MTV, Richard Madden, a.k.a Robb Stark, stated that the cast members were hoping to impress the audience with the portrayal of the battle. In fact, producers spent a lot of resources because they wanted to create a memorable scene. Their determination was partially influenced by fans’ reaction to the battle of the first season. Viewers were not pleased with those sequences, so producers tried to make up for that episode through the Battle of Blackwater.
