Even celebrity power couples need help sometimes. In an interview with Oprah, Fergie and Josh Duhamel confessed they had therapy over cheating rumors in 2009.
Infidelity rumors are even harder to overcome when we’re talking about celebrity couples. Josh Duhamel and Fergie learned that the hard way, when in 2009, just nine months into their marriage, media leaked reports of Josh Duhamel’s infidelity. The power couple talked with Oprah about how they managed to save their marriage despite the cheating rumors that Josh Duhamel was having an affair with a stripper.
In 2009, as Fergie and Josh Duhamel were preparing to start a family, the celebrity couple met their very first hurdle, one that could have easily ruined everything. Josh Duhamel was then rumored to have been cheating on Fergie with a stripper. In January 2010, Fergie and Josh Duhamel renewed their vows, looking more solid than ever before.
“Tell me, nine months into your marriage, rumors begin to swirl about him being with a stripper. How was that for your marriage? How did you all get through that? Obviously, you got through it” asked Oprah Winfrey. “It was difficult” said Fergie. “When you go through difficult times it really makes you stronger as a unit. As a partnership. It does for us, anyway. Our love today is a deeper love” the Black Eyed Peas star told Oprah.
Josh Duhamel jumped in and added that the cheating rumors helped him “straighten his ass out”. “Now, I’m actually happy that all that happened, because we wouldn’t be as strong as we are now” the actor told Oprah. “As much anger as I carried about it before, I’m actually thankful that it did happen, because in a lot of ways it made me straighten my ass out” he confessed.
But as Fergie added, the cheating rumors were so hard to overcome they couldn’t do it on their own, so they asked for professional help. “We went to therapy. The whole thing just became a positive for us? Our marriage today – I couldn’t ask for anything more” Fergie told Oprah.
