Officials with a North Carolina medical center announced Sunday afternoon that evangelist Billy Graham was hospitalized for the treatment of a lung disorder.
The 93-year-old evangelist was hospitalized Saturday night in the Mission Hospital in Asheville. Billy Graham has been having lung problems since last November, when he received treatment for pneumonia. Apparently, his lungs are still vulnerable, as he is currently receiving treatment in Asheville for bronchitis.
A Twitter post by Billy Graham’s spokesman reads that he was hospitalized after developing a “slight fever overnight”. “Upon admission, he was alert and in good spirits” reads a statement by the North Carolina hospital.
A formal statement from the North Carolina hospital that’s been treating evangelist Billy Graham reads his condition is stable and is currently resting comfortably. His spokesman, A. Larry Ross had similar news for Billy Graham’s followers.
“This morning Mr. Graham watched his grandson, Will Graham, on television preaching at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, S.C” reads Larry Ross’s statement. “Later he enjoyed a visit from his daughter, Gigi, and one of his grandchildren. They ate lunch together and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon” the spokesman added of Billy Graham’s staying in the hospital.
“Doctors are encourages by his progress, and he’s been alert all day…taking meals sitting up in bed” said the evangelist’s spokesman Sunday night.
For the moment being, there is no news when evangelist Billy Graham will be discharged. According to spokesman Larry Ross, the 93-year-old evangelist is going to spend another few days in the hospital.
Pulmonologist David Pucci with the Mission Hospital in Asheville said Billy Graham was given antibiotics to help him fight off the pulmonary infection. “He’s made farther progress than for previous hospitalizations” the spokesman added.
The 93-year-old evangelist has kept away from public view recently. His spokesman said that his is “in good overall health”, in spite of last November’s pneumonia episode. However “he continues to remain at home due to age-related conditions”.
Evangelist Billy Graham is one of the most influential preachers of the 20th century. He remained active despite the age and is currently working on a book. He recently wrote: “Self-centered indulgence, pride and a lack of shame over sin are now emblems of the American lifestyle”.
