When “Dumb and Dumber” was released back in 1994, Jim Carrey surged as one of the old school comedy stars. The movie brought at that time some $127 million in revenue and producers were hoping the sequel would do much, much better. However, since “Dumb and Dumber 2” is going to happen without Jim Carrey, studios are going to have to reconsider their revenue estimate.
Back in April, director Peter Farrelly was excited to announce that “Dumb and Dumber 2” is going to have the original cast, with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back together. Production for the sequel was said then to start this September, but chances are that the shooting will be pushed for 2013, given that Jim Carrey withdrawn from the project.
Jim Carrey was originally excited about the sequel. The 50-year-old actor looked pretty dissatisfied with the studios dragging along the project. His rep told Entertainment Tonight, Jim Carrey has grown “increasingly frustrated” with how Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema were handling the “Dumb and Dumber” sequel.
“I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer, after all it’s implied in the title” said Jim Carrey in a statement for ETonline.com.
Although Jeff Daniels already confirmed he’d be happy to be casted on “Dumb and Dumber 2”, with Jim Carrey’s new plans his presence on the sequel might be jeopardized too. In the end, even with Jeff Daniels on board, there’s no “Dumb and Dumber 2” without Jim Carrey.
On Friday, Jeff Daniels told the Free Press: “I’d love to do it. Everybody wants to do it”. He added there’s still a lot of effort to be put in “working out all the details and deals and shoot dates and all that but the draft that was turned in is hysterical”. “I’m hoping we get to do it. I’d really love to do it” ended Daniels his statement.
The movie could still be made, even without the original cast. A prequel of the “Dumb and Dumber 2” was released a few years ago. “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd” was released in 2003 without any of the original cast members. It safe to say it wasn’t such a big hit. So, it’s only obvious a “Dumb and Dumber” sequel without the original cast would not bring producers the same success or half the revenue.

im really disappointed and sad. dumb and dumber was the BEST comedy i have ever seen. it was such a huge success. jim and jeff are the only ones that could make this happen. all of the production MAKE IT WORK GUYS PLEASE!!!!!!! you will make all of your fans happy. ive never wanted a sequel so bad. i love you guys!!!!!!!

Can’t do it without Daniels either, the two of you, when you walked into the black tie event, Jim knocks Jeff’s hat off…you think that he’s just gonna pick up his hat but then he takes his cane and leg whips Jim!!! LMFAO, that’s FUNNY!! Come on, guys!!!
