Singer and former Disney star Demi Lovato, recalls that last year on Thanksgiving she was in rehab. Her column in Seventeen mag describes the long way she has come and the progress that she is so proud of today.
Demi Lovato opens her heart to the Seventeen readers in her monthly column, regarding her struggles in the past year. On Thanksgiving, the 19-year-old star has so much that she is grateful for. “As many of you know, last year at this time, I was in treatment”, she wrote, adding that not only did she spent Thanksgiving away from home, but she was alone on Christmas and New year’s Eve, as well. This has made her appreciate more the time spent with her close ones. “Thinking about how far I have come in a year makes me so thankful”.
When rememorizing the moments spent in the rehab facility that she checked in about a year ago, she admits that the love and support of her family was the engine that made keep that road. “They have stuck by me through everything and love me just the way that I am” she wrote, noting that being loved for exactly who you are is a “wonderful feeling”.
Demi Lovato has spent months in treatment. She initially checked-in to treat her bulimia and depression, but while she was there, further investigation showed that she also had Bipolar II (a mood disorder characterized by episodes of high-level energy that alternate with deep depression moments. It is milder than Bipolar I, but in time, there are high chances of turning into Bipolar I).
Since that experience, Demi has grown up and sees things more maturely. She explains that she is now thankful for all the experiences in her life, “including the highs and the lows, because it has caused my true self to shine through”.
