David Arquette and Courtney Cox have officially decided to call it quits after numerous efforts of reviving their marriage. The Us Weekly report claims that the two actors filed the divorce papers on Friday at the Los Angeles Superior Court invoking irreconcilable differences.
The “Cougar Town” star and her husband David Arquette appeared to be one of the happiest couples in Hollywood. The couple, however, claims that their marriage started to stagger a while ago. They first announced their separation in October 2010, but they only filed for divorce two years later, on June 8, 2012.
Arquette was not in the United States when his legal representatives filed the papers on Friday. He was on his way to Israel where he plans to visit Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The purpose of the trip is spiritual because Arquette had his bar mitzvah at 40 years old being probably inspired by his mother who was also Jewish. The ceremony was held at Israel’s Western Wall on Monday and the actor took to Twitter to tell his followers that he is finally a man.
The declarations on the divorce papers prove that the former lovers have pondered their decision over and over again until they were convinced there was nothing else they could do to save their marriage. As a matter of fact, the divorce papers were signed by Arquette on March 31, 2012, but he confessed that the real date of the separation was December 31, 2011.
Friends were surprised to see their marriage lasted for so long. David and Courtney were regarded as an odd couple from the very beginning. They thought about going to couples therapy, but they realized everything they did was pointless because they were arguing over the same things for years. In the end, Arquette moved out, but he spent too much time partying and ended up in rehab. When he came back from rehab in September 2011 he stated in an interview for “The Howard Stern Show” that he and Cox were already in the “friend zone”.
Courtney Cox agreed to speak with Howard Stern about her past marriage. She, too, confirmed that her marriage with Arquette was over. Nevertheless, the two will continue to stay friends in order to raise their 8-year-old daughter.
