Famous actress Daryl Hannah was arrested on Tuesday in front of the White House for participating in a Keystone pipeline protest. The blonde star joined 100 other people in the green cause protest, Associated Press reports.
The “Kill Bill” and “Splash” star Daryl Hannah has found another environmental cause to protest for. She and another one hundred people, gathered in front of the White House in a protest organized by the group called Tar Sands Action against XL tar sands oil pipeline extension. The blonde beauty is a strong supporter of environmental causes and this one she did not let slipping away. The protesters gathered on the sidewalk in front of the White House and were determined not to move. They were eventually arrested. The actress was taken down to the police station as well. She gave a declaration to Associated Press regarding the reason of the protest. “We want to be free from the horrible death and destruction that fossil fuels cause, and have a clean energy future.”
She was released hours later and was given a fine of 100 dollars.
Daryl Hannah is not the only Hollywood celebrity who joins the cause of stopping the construction of the Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline extension. Among the other celebrities who oppose the action there are actress Margot Kidder and author Bill McKibben. The pipeline extension, which was proposed in 2008, is 1,661 miles long and will connect the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta, Canada, with the refineries in Illinois, Oklahoma, and the US Gulf Coast. The Natural Resources Defense Council , along with other eco organizations, 50 members of Congress and a number of celebrities worry that the impact it will have on the environment would be catastrophic.
Daryl Hannah, 50, has previously been arrested in 2006 and in 2009 for other green causes.
