Critics’ Choice Awards 2012 Winners

The 17th edition of the Critics’ Choice Awards was held on January 12, 2012. Here is the list of winners as presented by The Hollywood Gossip. The most awarded movies of the night were “The Artist” which was honored at four categories and “The Help” which won three awards.

“The Artist” was the first motion picture to be honored during last night’s gala which was hosted by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. The movie drew everyone’s votes for the best picture category, but also for the best score, the best costume design and director.

Kathryn Stockett’s novel became increasingly more popular thanks to the recent adaptation called “the Help”. The movie tells the story of a journalist who investigates the relationship between black employees and white employers. She decides to write a book made out of the servants’ testimonials; thus supporting African Americans in their civil rights movement.

Viola Davis won best actress for her role in “The Help”. She was so impressed when she received the honor that she cried when she got on stage. Her co-star Octavia Spencer won best supporting actress, whereas the cast was awarded for the best acting ensemble.

Among the interpreters who received an award at the category of ‘the best actor’ was George Clooney for his role in “The Descendants” and Thomas Horn as the best young actor for “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”. Christopher Plummer was honored as the best supporting actor for “Beginners”.

“Bridesmaids” received an award for the best comedy of the year, whereas “Drive” was depicted the best action movie. Although we were expecting “Midnight in Paris” to be critically acclaimed, the motion picture received only one award for the most original screenplay. A few steps away was “Moneyball” which got the prize for the best adapted screenplay.

“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was recently released on the big screen. However, many more critics seem to like the mysterious movie. It was the editing part that brought an honor to the producers of the movie this time, but further awards might come during the upcoming galas.
