People magazine reports that Brett Michaels and his fiancée, Kristi Gibson have called off their engagement. The couple have been engaged since December 2010, but decided to part ways on Monday.

Reality TV star Brett Michaels confessed during an interview with People magazine that he and his fiancée have called off their engagement. The winner of “Celebrity Apprentice” did not provide an explanation for their decision, but reassured fans that they will continue to stay friends in order to raise their two children.

The couple has been together for many years, but they have had both good and bad times together. In fact, they were constantly in the spotlight for their on again off again relationship. Even so, they remained a couple for 16 years and in December 2010 announced their intention to get married. The engagement was never followed by a wedding; on the contrary, Michaels and Gibson declared that they have called off their plans on Monday.

Their engagement was very original and therefore, highly appreciated among fans. At that time, Brett was filming for the reality TV show “Brett Michaels: Life As I Know It”. During the final episode he gave his girlfriend, Kristi, a recycled “promise ring” she had worn earlier that year. When reporters asked them why they chose that particular ring, the couple described it as a “friendship ring with benefits”.

Brett Michaels has always considered his relationship as a “work in progress” because he knew it takes a lot of efforts to maintain it. Although they were not married, he and Kristi lived together as a family, especially since their two daughters were born. They are parents to 12-year-old Raine Elizabeth and seven-year-old Jorja Bleu, which is why they are determined to remain close friends in order to provide a good education to their daughters.
