Broadway is getting more and more singers starting their acting careers. Billy Ray Cyrus is up for a Broadway debut in “Chicago” this November.
According to a report by the Associated Press, Billy Ray Cyrus is going to debut on Broadway November 5th. He got the part of Billy Flynn, the criminal lawyer, in “Chicago”. “I love acting, and I’m always up for learning new things. I get a little nervous thinking about it. Maybe a lot nervous” the 50-year-old country singer confessed in a statement for USA Today.
For the country singer the upcoming gig is very important. Not to mention that until last year, Miley Cyrus’s dad had never seen “Chicago”, nor the stage or film version. When producers invited him to check out the show, John O’Hurley was playing the part of the criminal lawyer. O’Hurley’s interpretation of the part really got to the 50-year-old.
“His performance was so brilliant, and I fell in love with this character. He’s got a lot of heart and soul, but he’s got an agenda, too. I like that contradiction” said Billy Ray Cyrus.
Later on he saw the movie adaptation of “Chicago” too. And Richard Gere’s performance was just as impressive for Cyrus as O’Hurley’s. He concluded the best thing for him is get inspired from the both versions: “I’m probably going to borrow from both performances – but make it my own, as they say in this business”.
Sure, Billy Ray Cyrus is no stranger to a movie set. He starred with his daughter, Miley Cyrus, in the popular “Hannah Montana” show and even had parts in several movies that aired on the Hallmark Channel and Lifetime.
Obviously, Broadway is a lot more than that, but the man has some acting experience, he is a singer and even has some training with dancing. He might not have won “Dancing With the Stars” but the training sure helped. And it’s a good thing, Billy Ray Cyrus is familiar with the stage, also. Seven years ago he had a part in “Annie Get Your Gun” a Toronto production.
