Artists Pay Tribute To Dick Clark During AMA

LOS ANGELES (AP) – This year’s edition of American Music Awards was marked by artists’ special tribute to radio and television legend, Dick Clark. Among the singers who performed in honor of the late host were also Stevie Wonder, Usher and Will.i.am.

Dick Clark had a great influence on numerous artists we know today, which is why the majority of them insisted on paying tribute to the “American Bandstand” host during the American Music Awards. Artists chose the prestigious gala for the commemoration of the TV icon because Clark helped set the basis for the AMA almost 40 years ago.

Ryan Seacrest held a touching speech about Dick Clark’s influence on the evolution of the show. He told guests that the American Music Awards continues to reflect Clark’s “original vision”, namely, that the event should gather the most popular artists of the year and “let the music speak for itself”. Seacrest further explained that Clark was a strong believer of the idea that music can create pure joy.

Stevie Wonder was the first to pay tribute to the late TV personality because the two have been bond by a powerful friendship for more than 49 years. Wonder did not speak about Clark’s legacy, but preferred to focus instead on the values that defined him. According to Wonder, Clark was a good and kind friend, who deeply appreciated music and people.

Will.i.am and many other young talents hurried to share their personal opinions about Dick Clark. In Will.i.am’s opinion, the American Music Awards show lasted for so many years because it preserved Dick’s vision of spotting and encouraging young talents. He recalled some of the great artists, who performed on the AMA stage, such as, Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, Santana and Jefferson Airplane.

Justin Bieber was one of the biggest winners of the evening. He received three trophies, including one for Artist of the Year. He was accompanied by his mother whom he gave an emotional thank you during his acceptance speech.
