Many actresses have various times talked about this subject and it seems that the latest star who joined them is Anne Hathaway. Anne recently opened out about ageism in the movie business and claimed that she is starting to experience this Hollywood reality.
So, Anne revealed that she feels old in the movie world and she is already losing many roles to younger actresses. Anne claimed that it was really curious how younger actresses were receiving older roles.
“I can’t complain about it because I benefitted from it. When I was in my early twenties, parts would be written for women in their fifties and I would get them,” Anne said during an interview with Glamour.
“Now I’m in my early thirties and I’m like, ‘Why did that 24-year-old get that part?’ I was that 24-year-old once. I can’t be upset about it, it’s the way things are,” the famous star went on to add. However, the star revealed that these Hollywood attitudes have not affected her, as Anne has enough self-confidence and experience in this business to know exactly how things work.
So, Anne also admitted that she also benefited from Hollywood’s ageism when she was a younger actress, and she knows perfectly well that this is how things are now. And now she has a career and some successful roles that help her remain in top. “All I can do right now is think that thankfully you have built up perhaps a little bit of cachet and can tell stories that interest you and if people go to see them you’ll be allowed to make more,” the star said.
Anne also talked about Taylor Swift during her interview. The actress revealed that she met the popular singer while filming Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal. Taylor and Jake were dating at that time. “She just seems to be following her heart. I met her … when she and Jake were together. … We hung out one night. I was like, ‘You are a magnificent creature.’ She was on fire and I’ve watched her become this force of nature,” the actress said.
