Earlier this month, AnnaLynne McCord spoke on behalf of Somaly Mam Foundation about a disturbing personal experience. In an emotional speech, AnnaLynne McCord revealed the she was the victim of a sexual abuse.
Many celebrities lend their images and support to all sort of causes, but making it personal takes it to a whole new level. On September 22, AnnaLynne McCord, the 90210 star, hosted an event in Los Angeles for an organization that aims to stop human trafficking. The star took the stage and audience through a painful and emotional recollection of her past, when she was sexually abused.
“Has anyone ever been raped? Sexually abused? Not said ‘no’ when you felt you didn’t have the right to? I know what it feels like” said the 90210 star. AnnaLyne McCord later explained in an interview with Us Weekly she knows what the women and girls the foundation is trying to help are going through. She was one of them at some point.
“I had a very similar experience to what these girls go through 20 times a night” said AnnaLyne McCord of her sexual abuse past. “It happened to me once by somebody that I knew, and it is a very interesting thing to feel that you do not have the voice to say ‘no’” the 25-year-old actress told Us Weekly.
While she describes it as sexual abuse, what happened in fact wasn’t an attack. It was just someone taking advantage of her not being able to say ‘no’. Unfortunately, this is something that happens more often than not and it isn’t ruled out by the victims as an actual abuse.
“It wasn’t an attack or anything like that – I just had no voice. I did not know how to say, ‘I don’t want this. Please do not do this to me” AnnaLynne McCord described her sexual abuse. She recalled “it was a situation where I found myself in my own home being hospitable, and that hospitality was taken advantage of at an extreme level”.
“I did not have a voice, and now I do, and I’m practicing using my voice for others” the 90210 actress told the magazine. “Finally I can say I was taken advantage of – not from my own shame that I did something to deserve that – and now I can have a clear conscience” AnnaLynne McCord confessed.
