With an amazing wedding to plan, Angelina Jolie managed to pull herself away from the engagement celebration and all the scheduling to visit refugees in Ecuador. It goes without saying that Angelina Jolie is probably one of the most active celebrities in volunteering and charity work.

Brad Pitt might have enough reasons to be jealous since Angelina Jolie’s philanthropic duties seem to rank higher than other aspects in her life. Just one week after the two gorgeous actors got engaged, Angelina Jolie putt off wedding planning and the engagement celebration to go visit refugees in Ecuador. You’ve got to hand it to her: she’s very committed.

Angelina Jolie was in Ecuador this weekend with her family on a vacation to celebrate the engagement. The 36 year old actress decided to take advantage of her trip in Ecuador to visit refugee camps in Ecuador.  Angelina had a meeting with Antonio Guterres, the High Commissioner for Refugees and with Ricardo Patino, Foreign Minister for Ecuador.

During her trip in Ecuador, Angelina Jolie went on a visit in Quito, as part of the “Thanks Ecuador” campaign. She was also spotted in Barranca Bermeja, a village on the border between Ecuador and Colombia, with a population mostly formed by Colombian refugees.

Earlier this month she was named Special Envoy by Antonio Guterres, and Angelina took her new responsibility seriously. UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards said of Angelina Jolie’s duty in  Ecuador: “She is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people, to undertake advocacy and represent UNHCR and Mr Guterres at the diplomatic level, engaging with relevant interlocutors on global displacement issues”.

Although a onetime visit might not change that much, the truth is that Angelina managed to draw some attention to Ecuador’s refugee issue. There’s no other country in Latin America that could equal the number of refugees Ecuador has within its borders. From Colombia alone, Ecuador received 56,000 refugees.

During the visit to Ecuador’s refugee camps, Angelina Jolie kept in simple. She wore black clothes, a simple top and vest, boots and no makeup. In the end, this isn’t Angelina’s first diplomatic chore. She has been a goodwill ambassador for the UN since 2001.
