These days, when a company hits raving success, it is really just a matter of time until all competitors adjust their business model to offer their clients similar possibilities. It’s the case of Apple’s App Store which has been copied by Windows, Google, Samsung and Nokia. Windows Phone Marketplace has hit the 50,000 mark.
When you don’t have to waste energy and money worrying whether or not your idea of an App store would catch on, then you can put all these resources in fast and strong development. This is what Microsoft’s Windows has done with its Phone App Marketplace.
The importance of Microsoft’s Windows Phone hitting the 50,000 apps mark in its online store is that it took Apple 12 months to reach this milestone. But, Microsoft’s Windows Phone did it only a couple of months after its release.
Microsoft’s new mobile platform was launched last year and it has reaped the benefits of its association with Nokia. As a matter of fact, the first Nokia operating on Windows Phone will arrive in the United States market in January 2012 at an amazing price of $50.
Allaboutwindowsphone.com has released a report that explains the impressive growth Windows Phone had over the past few months, in relation to how its competitors did in the beginning. The report explains:
“It took just over a year to get to 40,000 apps, but just 40 days to add the next 10,000 apps. That bodes well for Windows Phone in 2012”.
Basically. according to the Allaboutwindowsphone.com report, Windows Phone took 14 months to reach 50,000 apps. Android took 19 months to reach 50,000 apps and iOS took 12 months. The overall expansion seems to have been generated, in part, due to the expansion of the geographic area available to the marketplace.
What’s even better for Microsoft’s development of the Windows Phone Marketplace is that it has managed to reach the 50,000 mark ahead of the estimated time. Allaboutwindowsphone.com has previously estimated Windows Phone Marketplace will score 50,000 apps in the second or third week of January 2012.
As the report states, reaching the 50,000 mark, sooner than estimated, “is a key milestone, but more important is the accelerating growth of the Marketplace”.
