Vladimir Putin Gives Steven Seagal Russian Passport

It surely seems that the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is a Steven Seagal fan. Putin has personally presented Seagal with a Russian passport and it seems that he actually hopes that this will be seen as a diplomatic gestures and indicate a “normalization” of the always sensitive relations between Moscow and Washington.

So, everything occurred during a televised meeting last week. Putin and Seagal were standing at a round table in the Kremlin. The President of Russia was the one who showed Seagal where he had to sign to be able to obtain his passport. After that, the two shook hands and Putin also congratulated the famous actor.

“I want to congratulate you and express the hope that this is another, albeit small, gesture and it might be a sign of the gradual normalization of relations between our countries,” Putin said. “You have many friends in this country and you have professional plans as well,” he added. “Naturally, Russian citizenship and a Russian passport will make it easier for you to meet your friends and carry out your plans.” “Thank you very much,” Seagal answered in Russian.

So, Putin also said that Seagal being so welcomed in Russia could be seen as “a sign of gradual normalization of the relations between our countries.” Putin really seems to like the actor, as he told Seagal that he hoped that their “personal relationship will remain and continue.” Seagal considered the whole event to be a “great honour” for him.

But, it is important to mention that Segal is not the only actor who has received a Russian passport. We can surely say the same thing about star Gerard Depardieu. This event dates back to 2013, when the actor was also given a Russian passport by President Vladimir Putin. Another famous person who received citizenship is US boxer Roy Jones Jr. Martial artist Jeff Monson has been in a similar situation, as well.

Well, maybe Seagal is a more resounding name in the US, being one of the best known stars in Hollywood. Seagal’s fame peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s and his movies have definitely reached the whole world. Seagal is particularly popular in Europe, actually being granted Serbian citizenship in January this year.
