Tony Lucca’s version of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” made Christina Aguilera fret a bit. Thus she and Adam Levine got into a sort of clash over Tony Lucca’s performance of Monday night’s “The Voice”. Now, Tony Lucca reacts to Christina Aguilera’s negative comments wondering whether he had personally offended her in some way.
Monday night, “The Voice” finalist Tony Lucca took his gloves off. After judge Christina Aguilera slashed down his performance, the 36 year old Lucca believes she’s taking it too personal.
On Monday night, Tony Lucca chose to sing Jay Z’s “99 problems” but Christina Aguilera looked passed the actual skill and performance and stopped to the lyrics that denigrate women. She told Lucca that she thought “it was a little derogatory toward women”. If you don’t remember, Jay Z’s song has a particular lyric that might come as offensive to people. “I got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one” read the lyrics and Christina found that to be offensive.
“All of the other coaches have been pretty respectful about each other’s choices” said Tony Lucca. “But now it seems like she’s just flat-out trying to get me out of here”.
Even with Justin Timberlake endorsing him, Christina still was hard on Tony Monday night. Not only she called him one dimensional, but he attacked him and Levine through another contestant, Katrina Parker.
“I know that probably the obvious, predictable choice for Adam would be to be swayed towards [Lucca]” said Christina, “but I’m telling you, take a look at Katrina Parker because she’s a star”.
In Tony Lucca’s defense came immediately Adam Levine. He told Christina that it was suppose to be a metaphor and concluded his abrupt intervention saying she does love her. But, Christina seems to have a personal thing to settle with Lucca, most likely it’s tied with him being once a Mouseketeer.
Anyway, Tony Lucca reacted to Christina Aguilera’s negative comments and told People: “I’m not going to let one person bring me down. Clearly that seems like part of her strategy”. But he did try to see whether Christina Aguilera’s attitude comes from something else. He even went around asking fellow Mouseketeers if they knew anything.
All in all, it’s likely that Christina Aguilera took the metaphor personally. In the end she did make life hard for Tony Lucca during “The Voice”.
