Tom Hardy decided to open up about his former drug addiction problems during a new interview. The famous actor claimed that he was so addicted that he would have actually sold his mother to buy his drugs. The Hollywood star made the revelation during a recent interview with Essentials magazine.
“I was a shameful suburban statistic. I was told very clearly, ‘You go down that road, Tom, you won’t come back,’ ” the actor said. “That message stayed with me clearly for the rest of my days. I am f***ing lucky to be here. I would have sold my mother for a rock of crack.” Well, quitting drugs and trying to get on the right path has not only been a great thing for Tom’s life, but it has definitely been a crucial step in his career, too.
The star confessed that he gained success as an actor after quitting drugs, back in 2003. However, this does not mean that the trouble in his life was immediately and completely over. The star claimed that he struggled to stay on the right path and actually the “tough guy” that people could see in his roles was far away from the person that he was in real life.
“The trouble with Hollywood is they want you to be something, then they think you’re who they wanted you to be,” the popular actor said during his interview. “I’m not a fighter. I’m a petite little bourgeois boy from London. People didn’t sit up and take any notice of me until I started putting on weight, kicking people and being aggressive,” he explained.
Well, luckily, Tom Hardy is doing great now. The actor enjoys a successful career in the movie industry and is really happy when it comes to his personal life. Tom Hardy went to praise his wife, Charlotte Riley, saying that she is an amazing person. “My wife is an actor, so she sort of gets it,” the star explained. “She’s just a very kind person. I’m very lucky,” Tom Hardy concluded.
