The Weeknd Delivers New Release: ‘Echoes of Silence’

A lot of people expect Ethiopian-born R&B singer The Weeknd to make it, in no time, among the hottest artists in North America. One of this year’s brightest newcomers, The Weeknd just delivered a new release mixtape, called ‘Echoes of Silence’.

The new mixtape, ‘Echoes of Silence’, features 9 tracks, including a remake of Michael Jackson’s loved ‘Dirty Diana’, as well as a song produced by Clams Casino. The recently released mixtape ends his trilogy, after scoring raving success with ‘House of Balloons’ and ‘Thursday’.

The first two parts of the trilogy have been so acclaimed they won The Weeknd a Polaris Music Prize nomination and Exclaim! magazine gave him the title of top soul and R&B album of the year.

David Dacks was a member in the Polaris Grand Jury, where The Weeknd got a nomination. He explains what believes about Abel Tesfaye’s, aka The Weeknd: ‘The narrative of House Of Balloons, however, puts it in a whole different league. Abel Tesfaye comes across as coarse and boastful but also vulnerable and pathetic’. He continues talking about ‘the list of sonic enablers in his music ? the simple heaviness of dubstep, dramatic pop inspiration from the likes of Beach House and Siouxsie and the Banshees and his penchant for freestyling’.

Spinner.com released a list of the best albums of 2011, and The Weeknd’s ‘House of Balloons’ was number 2, ahead of consecrated names such as The Beach Boys and Adele.

Although sources have previously confirmed that ‘Echoes of Silence’ is going to be released sometimes during this year’s fall, the new digital album has been released yesterday. In all fairness, December 21st was the last day of fall, as today marks the official beginning of the winter.

The tracklist for ‘Echoes of Silence’ is as follows: ‘Initiation’, ‘Chaos’, ‘Echoes of Silence’, ‘Serenity’, ‘Atencion’, ‘XO’, ‘Sleep Paralysis’ and ‘Witches and Panthers’ before concluding with ‘Overdose’. You can download it from The Weeknd’s website.

And now that the last part of the trilogy has been released, we cannot help recalling that the Weeknd has previously mentioned on Facebook something about going on a tour. Meanwhile, to make the waiting a little bit easier, check out the new release and enjoy the official video for “The Knowing”.
