Sonos is one of the most remarkable brands when it comes to wireless speakers. Moreover, this company has released a significant number of models in its multiroom audio lineup.
However, its flagship tabletop speaker remains the Play:5, despite the fact that it hasn’t changed in 6 years.
Well, it seems that the time has come and Sonos has decided to update its flagship tabletop speaker. The new Play:5 is a sleeker, bigger and significantly better-sounding speaker and it is available at the price of 500 dollars.
That means that the new speaker costs approximately 100 dollars more compared with the previous model. However, after testing the new Play:5 users will not be disappointed and they will not want their extra 100 dollars back.
The new Sonos Play:5 is available in two simple colors: black and white. Moreover, this speaker can be placed either vertically or horizontally, but probably standing vertically will look much better.
To be added that Play:5 works like a single speaker and it has a better clarity and wider soundstage compared with its predecessor.
If customers will have the possibility to buy two of these speakers, they can create an incredible stereo pair. To be added that this speaker is approximately 25 percent bigger compared with the older version and it delivers more bass. Play:5 houses 6 drivers, including 3 tweeters and 3 mid-woofers, meaning that users will not have to add a separate Sonos Sub for more bass.
To be mentioned that everything is set up and controlled through a free Android or iOS app, which acts as a remote. Users can control everything through a single app and stream music using services such as Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music, Groove and Tidal.
However, users can also play music from their own collection stored on a networked drive or computer. An interesting fact is that this new speaker has new touch controls that will allow users to play, pause, change the track and adjust volume. However, it is great that the smart sensors built in the speaker are very responsive to all orientations.
