The new Linksys WRT1900ACS is an upgrade to the previous WRT1900AC, which was released more than a year ago. The new router comes with some interesting updates and it is equipped with significantly more powerful hardware compared with the previous model.
Moreover, Linksys WRT1900ACS doesn’t have an internal fan anymore, allowing it to run more silently. Compared with its predecessor, this router is significantly faster, both as a network storage server and as a Wi-Fi router.
The new Linksys WRT1900ACS is available at the price of 230 dollars, but the investment will totally be worth it, especially for those with fast internet connections who are trying to reach their provider’s top quoted speeds. However, for those who are having a low internet, or they already have a good router, like Netgear R7000 or Asus RT-AC68U, it’s unlikely that this new router will make a big difference in terms of performance.
As it was earlier mentioned, the new Asus RT-AC68U homes a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, accompanied by 512 of DDR3 system memory. This means that this router is homing one of the most powerful hardware on the market. It is a big difference, compared with the previous model that runs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 256MB of DDR3 system memory.
As for design, the new router looks similar with the older WRT1900AC. They share the same dimensions and retro design, featuring the classic blue-and-black look of the earlier WRT series. Although, the new router comes with a big difference in design compared with the previous model, it doesn’t come with an internal fan anymore. Those who are owning the older WRT1900AC know that fans make noise and they are also the parts that tend to break faster. So, the company has decided to remove this piece, thus, users will have one less thing to worry about.
The new Linksys WRT1900ACS remains a three-stream 802.11ac router. This means that this router features a top speed of up to 1,300 megabits per second on the 5GHz frequency band, or up to 600Mbps on the 2.4GHz band. To be added that on its back, this router features four gigabit LAN ports and one gigabit WAN port. Moreover, it also homes one USB 3.0 port and another port that can work as either eSATA connection or a USB 2.0.
