The latest Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson movie, “The Avengers” has finally got a trailer out to the hungry for information fans.
From the first scene, the trailer reveals bigger picture events, since the team is larger it only fits that the location the action takes place should scale accordingly. So the first scene presents a highly populated town’s street with people running for their lives as bombs drop from the sky.
Marvel hasn’t yet revealed to the press the creatures they plan to have help Loki as he strives to conquer the Earth. But that wasn’t unexpected since there is still more than half a year till the production will be actually finished, so keeping some tricks up their sleeves feels only natural.
The newly formed team gets a coach, Nick Fury, a dysfunctional twist and a specific role “there was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so that when we needed them they could fight the battles that we never could”.
Even though, at first glance, the movie seems to be leading in the direction of yet another save the day production, the director has big plans in mind for developing both the team’s interactions as well as the characters individually. Joss Whedon carefully places conflicts between the members of the team, which will escalade from mere talk to actual physical fights, but also within their personalities as well.
As expected, even with the inner team conflicts, most of the battling is still conducted against common enemies and threats. Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner, blows up stuff at the use of his explosive arrows, Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson, takes a henchman down by wrapping her legs around his neck and so on.
The trailer finishes with revealing the team’s ultimate goal: “If we can’t protect the Earth, you can be damn sure we’ll avenge it”. And with a quick peek at yet another character believed to join the team but not commented upon by Marvel, The Hulk.
