Susan Williams, the wife of late actor Robin Williams, has finally decided to open up about the tragedy that had struck her family. She revealed that she and Robin were actually “living a nightmare” in the months before his death. Susan talked to ABC in a very emotional interview.
This was in fact the first interview that Susan has given since the death of her husband. Robin William committed suicide back in August 2014, shocking the entire world.
Well, during her interview, Susan revealed that during the past year she tried to find out what made her husband commit such a gesture and decide to take his own life.
Susan went to make a shocking revelation. She said that her husband’s death wasn’t triggered by depression or his issues with alcohol and drug addiction. Susan said that Robin had been sober for eight years and alcohol or illegal drugs were not found in his system.
She said that “what was going on in his brain” finally killed her husband. The actor was believed to have suffered from Lewy body dementia, which doctors discovered following his autopsy. Susan said that Robin’s symptoms became worse during the months before his death. According to her, he suffered from anxiety attacks, being constantly seen by doctors, but none was able to properly diagnose him.
“I know now the doctors, the whole team was doing exactly the right things,” Susan revealed. “It’s just that this disease was faster than us and bigger than us. We would have gotten there eventually.” Susan said that one of the doctors told her that “Robin was very aware that he was losing his mind and there was nothing he could do about it.”
She also added that Robin’s case was unique, but she expressed hope that she would raise awareness on Lewy body dementia, helping others get a diagnosis and the right help. “This was a very unique case and I pray to God that it will shed some light on Lewy bodies for the millions of people and their loved ones who are suffering with it,” Susan said. “Because we didn’t know. He didn’t know.”
